  • 43 BC  Famed Roman orator and politician Marcus Tullius “Tully” Cicero is assassinated by servants of Mark Antony; he dies stating “there is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly”
  • 1776  Silas Deane, an American agent in Paris, arranges for the Marquis de La Fayette to enter colonial service as a major-general
  • 1787  Delaware votes unanimously to ratify Constitution of the United States; it is the 1st state to ratify
  • 1941  In surprise attack, 300 Japanese planes bomb American fleet while anchored at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; America enters WWII
  • 1972 NASA launches Apollo 17 mission; it is the last manned mission to Earth’s Moon to date
  • 1982  Charlie Brooks, Jr. becomes the 1st person to be executed in the United States by lethal injection
  • 1993 Colin Ferguson opens fire on Long Island Railroad train killing 5 and wounding 19; seeks revenge for imagined racism
