  • 1930  Smoot-Hawley Tariff Bill signed into law By President Hoover
  • 1940  French announce plans to surrender to Germany
  • 1953  Soviet tanks and troops crush pro-democracy protests in East Berlin; exposes communism as a violent and oppressive fraud
