Wow! The Republican National Convention in Tampa was quite an event. The city of Tampa kept its guests entertained yet safe. Despite the need to divert resources to storm preparations for the possible landfall of Hurricane Isaac, the city was able to handle things with grace and aplomb. There were even reports that protesters complemented security operations over events in the past.
However, the mainstream press didn’t do itself any favors in the way they covered the event. From describing every third word as racist to “airbrushing out” almost all of the minority speakers, we see once again how deep in the bag they are for President Obama. They couldn’t even be bothered to fact-check their own commentators; instead deciding to allow blatant lies from political agents to be reported as fact.
Despite this constant irritation, I really enjoyed the speeches. If you haven’t had time to watch them, you should check out the 2012 Republican National Convention YouTube channel. Especially fun is the ad-libbed talk by Hollywood great Clint Eastwood. Many in the media are trying to portray him as unwatchable and inarticulate (Shultz and Maddow on MSNBC) or the speech as disjointed or pathetic.
This is far from the truth. I agree with Richard Fernandez’s assessment: “It was an old man’s delivery, but overstatedly so for effect. It was a cutting delivery and for that reason delivered in low-key.”
